History of MountainCross

1997 saw the planning of an alternative mountain bike racing event to be held in the hills of Malibu, Ca. Round 2it Sports™ (formerly ESP iNTERACTIVE) Mentally morphed MTB Downhill, Supercross and BMX. This overactive brain exercise resulted in what many describe as a "brain fart". If taken to fruition, a brain fart should be audibly discharged through the mouth. The product... a word or words describing the result of the mental morphing endeavor. And Vic said, "MountainCross."

The concept event was well received by potential participators and spectators but not so well understood by some of the original corted major sponsors. Certain sanctioning bodies and organizations had difficulty grasping the concept as well. The multi-lap oriented event that sported a course utilizing a slight incline to enable the multi-lap concept came under criticism. "Downhillers can't go uphill." "Not enough elevation drop." It's just that they didn't get it.

Ultimately, this MountainCross event wasn't to be. However, the idea became it's own entity. Various mediocre attempts by the industry clearly demonstrates MountainCross is to be.

Still ignoring the centralized area, multi-lap, ~ski slope not necessary~ concept, current races fail to satisfy a spectator and broadcast media friendly environment.
We here at MountainCross.com are certain the current or near future race organizers and promoters will wiseup. MountainCross races can be events the general public would convene to observe. But not at the expense and inconvenience of having to travel to remote ski resort areas. By nature, most pro riders like to be watched. Without spectators, sponsors have little reason to compensate team riders to a level of which their skills and efforts deserve.
